Thrifting and second hand shopping is not a new concept. But over the last two years, Facebook Marketplace has certainly changed the landscape to shop local goods. Instead of waiting for a garage sale, you can now shop and negotiate deals with local sellers as well as buy from sellers across the country who offer shipping on smaller products.

Vintage Brass Duck | Pair of Brass Towel Holder

I have always been a fan of Facebook Marketplace. I have sourced so many items in my own home that I will be sharing with you all very soon. Recently, I have started looking outside of my town for smaller, more unique items that can be shipped. For me, it’s like getting to walk through an antique store right in your own home.

Finding Antiques Online

If you’re new to Marketplace, I would recommend typing key words for items you are interested in. I was looking for smaller items and using key words like: Brass, Antiques, Vintage, etc. In addition to being in the middle of a bathroom reno where I was looking for items, I came across this adorable brass dual towel holder.

The seller had the product listed for $25. I offered $15 but was told the price was firm. After looking up what it would cost to find another, I knew this was a good deal. I quickly pressed Buy Now, and as simple as that, I had checked out and was anxiously waiting for my new find. This beauty showed up within 5 days and I could not have been more excited.

How To Clean Brass Antiques

There is a time and place for patina antiques, but this hook was a little too dirty for my liking. Luckily, I had my favorite Brass Cleaner Brasso to do the job. Brasso is super easy to use. According to the instructions on the product, Shake well, soak a clean cloth or sponge with Brasso metal polish cream, rub thoroughly onto metal surfaces, and then buff again with a new clean cloth. No washing or rinsing needed.

There is one key word in those instructions: SOAK. I was unsuccessful in my first round of cleaning because I did not apply enough product. It is important to let the product do the work. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to achieve a high-quality shine, and how long the shine will last.
